The following are my comments to the Sam Jones for Mayor TV commercial that you appeared in. It recently aired on TV and was posted on his Facebook page, today.
“In the eight years that Sam Jones has been mayor of Mobile, the cities of Saraland and Chickasaw have taken bold action by taking ownership of educating their children with the creation of their own school systems, why has Mobile forced black, white and Latino families to accept the mediocrity of the Mobile County Public School System? Why no bold action of his own? Why is there no tourism industry in downtown Mobile, there’s no world-class experience to be had for citizens and tourists, alike.
There’s neither a flame nor flicker of creativity, no heart and no soul to the city. This is a man that’s been in the city of Mobile and Mobile County government for close to thirty years. Does he not see it? Is mediocrity the best we can do in Mobile — I hope not? I, for one, have had enough of the poor leadership that’s driven the city of Mobile at the expense of its residents for the past 40 years. I don’t blame Sam for all of that, but he surely has some ownership. It’s time for a change, it’s time for new blood.”
Given this reality how do you support him? Where’s the leadership by you or him? You built empty buildings, as mayor. If Brookley Field didn’t exist, another city would have been awarded the Airbus contract. Any nonsense that this mayor or our city officials made this event happen is hogwash. There is much wrong with Mobile, yet the mayor refuses to admit it. He refuses to face reality because he doesn’t know how to solve these problems. Your endorsement of him supports his worldview of Mobile. That’s unacceptable.
